Snippets

A snippet replaces a short shortcut with longer text. Saying "brb" inserts "be right back"; saying your company shortcut inserts its full legal name.

Snippets are applied last, after transcription and any formatting, just before the text is inserted.

Creating a snippet

On the Snippets page, choose Add new and fill in two fields:

• Shortcut — the text to look for, such as brb.
• Expands to — the text that replaces it, such as be right back.

Snippets apply to every profile. Use the row actions to edit or delete one later.

How matching works

• Shortcuts are not case-sensitive: brb, Brb, and BRB all match.
• Two snippets cannot share the same shortcut, ignoring case and surrounding spaces. The dialog blocks a duplicate before you can save it.
• Replacement text is inserted exactly as you wrote it, and is never itself scanned for snippets. A snippet cannot trigger another one.

Matching is not limited to whole words, so a shortcut also matches inside a longer word. Keep shortcuts distinctive — br would also fire inside "brown". For the same reason, avoid shortcuts where one is the beginning of another, such as cat and catalog, since which one wins is not guaranteed.
