Privacy Policy
What data OiPer handles, where it stays, and when anything is sent elsewhere.
Effective August 29, 2026.
OiPer is built so that the sensitive part of what we do — your voice and what you dictate — does not have to leave your computer. This policy describes what happens on your device, what happens when you deliberately use a service that is not on your device, and what we hold if you create an account on oiper.com.
OiPer Desktop
Local mode
When a profile runs in local mode, transcription happens entirely on your machine using a
speech model you downloaded. Your audio, transcripts, dictation history, configuration, and
logs are written only to OiPer's application data directory on your computer.
We do not receive them, and they are not sent to any third party. This works offline.
Cloud mode
When a profile runs in cloud mode, the audio of that recording — and, when formatting is
enabled, the transcript — is sent to the provider you configured, using the API key you
supplied, for as long as that request takes.
You choose the provider, the endpoint, and the model. That provider's own privacy policy and terms govern what it does with the data it receives. We are not a party to those requests and we do not receive their contents.
Your API keys are stored on your own computer, kept out of OiPer's configuration file in a separate credentials file, or read from an environment variable if you configure it that way. They are sent only to the provider they belong to, and never to us. See Security & Data Handling for the details.
Oiper mode
When a profile runs in oiper mode, the recording is sent to OiPer's hosted service, which
transcribes it and, if formatting is enabled, rewrites it, and returns the text to your
computer. This mode also sends contextual information about the application you are dictating
into — its name, window title, and text read from that window — because that context measurably
improves accuracy on names and technical terms.
We process this data to produce your transcript and return it. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to train models.
Information about the app you dictate into
Every dictation records the name, window title, and path of the application that was focused
when you started recording, and stores it in your local history so you can tell your
dictations apart. In oiper mode this information, along with text read from that window, is
also sent as described above. In local and cloud modes it stays on your device.
Network connections the app makes
Besides transcription requests in cloud and Oiper modes, OiPer Desktop contacts:
- Hugging Face, to download a local speech model when you ask for one.
- GitHub, to check for and download application updates.
Deleting your data
Everything the desktop app stores is on your computer and under your control:
- Delete all history on the History page removes every dictation record.
- Deleting OiPer's application data directory removes your configuration, history, recorded audio, downloaded models, and logs. See Security & Data Handling for the exact locations.
Account and website
If you create an OiPer account we hold the information needed to run it: your email address, your name if you provide one, and authentication records handled by our identity provider. Payments for paid features are handled by our payment processor, which holds the billing details; we do not store your card number.
We use this information to give you access to your account and paid features, to bill you, and to contact you about your account.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising.
Your rights
You can request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it and close your account. Write to support@oiper.com and we will respond.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. This policy is intended to be compatible with them, and you can exercise those rights at the same address.
Children
OiPer is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the effective date above and, for changes that materially affect you, notify account holders.
